VEGAS ON A BUDGET

Towards the end of our trip we made an impulse decision, drove to Las Vegas for a night and experienced Sin City for the first time.
Because my friends and I weren't familiar with Vegas at all and had no Internet connection during the week, we basically took things as they came and did everything and anything we could, joking that we were going to create our own version of the movie The Hangover.
We were told by our friend in Tucson, Ariz. that we could get a hotel room for the night at the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino for around $40. We drove down to strip to the Stratosphere and made it to the lobby where we found it cost over $80 because it was a busy time of the year. This trend of things costing more than we expected continued through the night, but we managed to avoid most of it.
We walked down the strip that night, hitting up all of the most popular casinos and mostly playing the penny slots and getting drinks from the waitresses while we gambled. As long as you were sitting at a machine you could get drinks for the cost of a tip to the waitress. This saved us money.
We walked the entire three miles of the strip up and back that night seeing most everything you can see in Vegas, drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon tall boy cans as we took in the city. None of us gambled much, because we knew that would cut into the money we had to do different things that night.
At the end of the night I ended up spending only $40. I don't know if I could say the same for my two friends, but I felt like I saw most of the major things to see on the strip and had a great time. We wished we would have been prepared with more cash so we could have done more, but we did a lot with what we had. It was still a good time and a memorable night.
