It's all quiet as you sit in the seats of the arena. Then your senses go into overload as the guitar and piano sounds hit your hears and the bright lights dazzle in their multicolored magnificence. Hard to believe this was at a concert for two rockers who have been making music since the 1960s.
On June 20th, 2009 I attended the Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood concert at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Nebraska. This was one stop on their 14-city tour across the U.S. during the summer of 2009. Of course, I've heard of the popular Eric Clapton songs such as "Tears in Heaven" and "Wonderful Tonight" but wasn't sure what to expect. What I got was a mind-blowing concert experience.
The show started around 8:15, with Clapton and Winwood playing songs from their days in the group Blind Faith. This pleased the older audience, mostly of people in their 40s to 60s. Clapton was playing guitar most of the night while Winwood rotated between guitar and piano. He delivered an amazing rendition of Ray Charles's "Georgia on my Mind" with no band on stage - just him and his piano. Soon after followed the acoustic version of "Layla."
Even though myself and my friends that went to the show were on the younger side of the people in attendance, we all enjoyed the show.
"I thought the entire concert was fantastic. It was two musicians doing what they loved for two hours straight, playing songs that aren't just big radio hits," said Kyle Sutton of Harrisonville, MO. "It was perfect."
The performers may not have addressed the audience with words, but with songs they more than made up for it. I recommend to anyone that if Eric Clapton or Steve Winwood comes near where you live on tour - take the opportunity to enjoy a great show.
