Follow these rules if you want to survive the night. First, take a joke. Don't get easily offended. Second, evaluate your attitude. Don't make yourself the perfect target.
Finally, don't walk through the doors if you're claustrophobic. It's hard to find seating in such a popular place. Follow these rules, you might leave with a better attitude.
Blazin' Pianos at DJ's Dugout Sports Bar and Grill is a true entertainment hot spot in Omaha, Neb. People wonder how it works. Anyone can write the name and artist of a song on and turn it in on top of the piano.
The pianists take and make requests, playing anything from oldies to rap. It seems they know every song imaginable. If you happen to stump them, they won't get flustered. Pianists push through by making up a song.
The relaxed bar atmosphere welcomes servers to come around asking your drink order rather than making customers stand in line.
No one will take offense if you bump elbows. New friendly faces are always laughing with you, not at you. Everyone seems to be there to simply laugh and enjoy themselves. The pianists love their jobs as much as anyone on staff.
"I think this is one job that no employee minds coming into work," Carrie Kisker, employee said.
Blazin' Pianos especially provide good times during special occasions like birthdays and bridal parties. With only $4 and a piece of paper boasting her birthday, Kara Lewis was pulled on stage for her 22nd birthday.
Both pianists asked any man up to the task to venture on stage for a serenade. The pianists started singing Righteous Brothers' "You Lost That Loving Feeling." As the last chorus erupted, all the men dropped to one knee and starting singing.
"I had a feeling that my friends would put my name on the piano," Lewis said. "However, I did not expect to get put on stage. When I got up there, I had no idea what to imagine and I just figured I would have to take everything the best way possible."
DJ's Dugout Sports Bar and Grill opens from 11a.m. to 1a.m. The kitchen hours are from 11a.m. to 10 a.m. Blazin' Pianos opens Thursday through Saturday. Thursday is free and Friday and Saturday's cover is $5. The shows start at 9 p.m.
There are two locations in the Omaha area, located on 114th West Dodge Road and 25th and Cornhusker in Bellevue, Neb. Two out of nine different pianists play each night.
Remember to be friendly and wear deodorant. You'll be sitting shoulder to shoulder with your neighbors. Have a good time. With a little money you can relax, have a drink, prepare to laugh and let go for rest of the night.
