Bright lights reflect off glass extending from floor to ceiling. Colors radiate from all directions as loud movie music invades the atmosphere. Popcorn wafts through nostrils as curious visitors enter into the lobby. This is more than a traditional movie theater.
The Rave Theater opened at the Westroads Mall in Omaha, Neb. on November 14 and is part of the Rave Motion Pictures theater chain. The Rave Motion Pictures chain began in Dallas, Texas.
Thirty theaters have come up from the ground since its opening in 1999. Differing from other theaters, every screen uses Digital Light Processing.
"The Rave offers the latest technology in movies," Elizabeth Robertson, manager said. "With DLP, the first show is the same quality as the last show because the film doesn't deteriorate."
The Rave offers all movies in DLP, as well as 3-D movies. It is one of three theaters in the Omaha area capable of showing 3-D movies.
"We've provided more 3-D content in the past month and a half than ever before," Robertson said. "It's truly a growing trend in movies."
While waiting for movie showings, guests are easily entertained at the arcade. Driving games featuring Nickelodeon characters and claw machines next to the Dance Dance Revolution dance pads add even more technological zest. An air hockey table also delights guests of all ages.
The Rave is popular among college students in the Omaha metro area and promotes the digital theater to local students using coupons. Buy one admission, get one free seems hard to pass up.
"I like how you can't tell the reel is being changed," Marc Wulf said. "The digital picture is awesome and there are no grains or film bubbles."
The Rave isn't the only entertainment located at Westroads Mall complex. It's only one attraction, along with the main anchor stores JCPenney, Yonkers, Von Maur and Dick's Sporting Goods.
"I like how the Rave is close to some nice restaurants and shopping at the mall," Brian Fitzpatrick said. "It's a one-stop place for entertainment"
