CHOCOLATE CHARMS IOWA
Only the best ingredients for that special someone, or yourself

The thick, impenetrable scent of chocolate reels in customers, refusing to let them go until they've crumbled to the temptation. Freshly made chocolates sit in neatly lined rows from behind gleaming glass showcases, waiting impatiently to be purchased. Nearby, towering stacks of empty, heart shaped boxes shine red and pink in the sunlight.
Suzette Candies has treated the Midwest with their handmade chocolates since 1946. The Iowa candy shop, with locations in Des Moines, Urbandale, and Altoona, has changed hands over the years. However, current owners Troy and Colleen Dubberke haven't changed a thing.
Despite management changes, the recipe used to create their homemade chocolates still remains unaltered. Suzette's still proves to be a success, using recipes that call for the best quality ingredients available and a handcrafted touch.
High standards and attention to detail set Suzette Candies apart from their competition in a world where candy production has become increasingly automated.Their traditionalized products are in demand by their customers.
"Our best selling item is our pecan snapper (a mixture of pecans, cashews, caramel and chocolate), which is like a turtle," said Mr. Dubberkke.
While chocolate may be their selling point, it's not all Suzette Candies has to offer. The glass counters are also filled with a variety of fresh nuts, pre-packaged items and seasonal candies such as multi-colored conversation hearts. A fraction of their products are available for order online, but the massive in-store selection and experience of walking into one of their stores is well worth the trip.
Suzette Candies also offers holiday specials throughout the year. During the week of Valentine's Day this year, customers can purchase a one pound box of chocolates with the preferred customized content and receive a dozen chocolate covered strawberries free of charge.
