One of America's beloved holidays is lurking right around the corner. Halloween is once again creeping up.

Well-known haunted houses can be found here in the heartland. Kansas City will give you a scare with haunted houses like "The Beast" and "The Edge of Hell." Providing entertainment since 1991, these houses continue to grow every year. Recent add-ons include "The Chamber of Edgar Allen Poe" and "Macabre Cinema."

Poe's haunted writings are brought to life in "The Chambers of Edgar Allen Poe." The "Macabre Cinema" pulls you into the big screen, focusing on horror movies like Carrie and The Shining.

Scaring for a cause, both haunted houses teamed up with Variety Club of Kansas City to raise money for bettering the lives of special needs children in the area. A percentage of each ticket that is purchased through "The Chamber of Edgar Allen Poe" and "Macabre Cinema" is donated to the Variety Club for the cause.

Both haunted houses are around 45 to 60 minute walk-throughs. Tickets are $20 for a single house visit and $33 for a combo house visit.
