Yard House
Modern art, classic rock big screens and beer

What do you get when you mix colorful modern, art, rich inviting earth tones, classic rock music and a whole lot of beer?
The bustling atmosphere of Yard House restaurant at the Legends in Kansas City, Kan., on a Saturday night is the answer.
Located on the west side near Target and right outside of the illuminated "LEGENDS" sign, Yard House has an obvious appeal on the weekends.
"Friday and Saturday nights and Saturday afternoons are definitely our busiest times," said waiter and KU student Adam Lovelace.
It's no surprise considering the Yard House's largest area is the enormous bar located in the center of the restaurant. As you look around, above your head are enough flat screens to entertain the entire male crowd with the Mizzou football game.
Of course, the bar at the Yard House isn't like any other. It boasts the world's largest selection of draft beer. They have 117 types ranging from raspberry wheat, to stouts, such as Guinness and everything in between.
The sweet and refreshing 75th Street Raspberry Wheat and rich and flavorful Lost Coast Alleycat Amber were my delicious choices and not badly priced between $4.75 and $5.50 a piece. But don't be too intimidated if you can't decide on just one. Stick to an old classic like Bud Light.
"[It's] the most popular beer served here," said 28-year-old bartender, Chris Gorrell, from Overland Park, Kan.
They also have two, six pack samplers to get a better idea of what you like.
There is also a wide variety to chose from on the food menu. The menu's many choices include soups and salads, grilled burgers, vegan and hearty meat sandwiches, pizzas, healthy kids klub selections, and like most restaurants, house favorites.
I finally decided on one of the 22 appetizers, the moo shoo egg rolls. They came out quickly and in a colorful display. The crisp dried carrot peels sprinkled on top was a nice contrast to the spicy, sweet and tangy flavor that left a slight tingle on your lips.
The entrée came out just as promptly as the egg rolls, and in an equally beautiful presentation. The flavor was not nearly as good as the appetizer, but my friend Halley Carlson from New Virginia, Iowa, raved about hers.
"It tastes just as good as it smells," she said."It came out fast. I absolutely would come here again," she said with a smile.
What really sets the Yard House apart from any old bar and grill is its atmosphere. The tables are classic with a single light in the center and the walls are a rich inviting golden yellow.
Large outrageously colorful modern art murals adorn the walls and classic rock plays over the speakers. It is the perfect blend of upscale and casual, modern and classic.
It's truly "colorful", from the beer to the food, the art to the music, and of course, the people that work there.
I would definitely come again just to listen to the classic rock, watch the game at the bar and have a Flying Dog Tire Bite Golden Ale.
