Christmas lights and holiday card delights are certainly a magnificent sight to see when traveling down Christmas Card Lane. This lane of lights, located in Olathe, Kan., has been a tradition for 23 years.
Two-hundred homes participate in this age old tradition. Each home is adorned with red and green, silver and gold and the most unique, giant Christmas cards.
These Christmas cards are made of colossal plywood which is split into two and attached with hinges. They are then decorated with whatever the home owner desires. Some show Santa and his sleigh, while others display a picture of Jesus.
However most of the cards say Season's Greetings, Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas from the families of Christmas Card Lane. As for the houses, they are also ornamented with lights, candles and figurines.
"People like to dress up their homes," said John Matthews, who participates in this tradition. "It feels good to hear that people like what we've done with the house."
It takes days to get set up, and this gorgeous sight can be enjoyed by all from the day after Thanksgiving until New Year's Eve. The lights are turned on at dusk, and the cars start rolling in.
"The traffic is bumper to bumper through here," said Matthews.
Christmas Card Lane is enjoyed by people of all ages. You can walk or drive through the streets, and it is certainly a great way to get into the holiday spirit.
