The Coterie Theater made its first appearance in Kansas City's Crown Center in 1979, as a place where children could experience theater and art appropriate for their young minds.
Judith Yeckel and Vicky Lee are the founder's of the award-winning playhouse, that is host to plays seeking to educate children about race, sexes, and generations. The subject matter of these plays is catered to educate and entertain the young theater goers and the adults that accompany them whether it is mom and dad or an educator.
Currently this fall the Coterie Theater will be featuring "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" this play is catered to the kindergarten and elementary age children. This play is an adaptation of a famous children's story written by Judy Blume. The tale tells of a boy who has a very terrible nemesis, his younger brother and all of the trails and tribulations he must suffer do to this bite size terror. This play would be great fun for children and adults alike, it will be featured at the theater from November 14 through December 29, 2006.
The next play that Coterie Theater will feature this fall is "The Giver" this play is catered to children and young adults from the fifth grade to high school. This play is an adaptation of a Newbury Award winning book by Lois Lowery. This book gives its main character a window into the future where there life is somewhat like a utopian society and all of the lessons that he learns from the Giver about himself and life. The subject matter of this play is meant to show life lessons that the young viewers may experience in their own life.This influential play will be featured at the theater from January 23 through February 25.
The Coterie Theater is located in downtown Kansas City, MO at the Crown Center Shopping Center's ground level.

Children can special order Macaroni, Beanie Weenie's, and other simple childhood delights. The restaurant is located around other shops that would interest children as well.
The last place you will want to venture to inside Crown Center is Fritz's, a train themed restaurant. But this isn't just ordinary restaurant that features trains; your food is delivered by a train.
