Buffalo herds trampled over the Midwest as the pioneers continually move westward expanding the boundaries of America. Native Americans of course did not approve of this expansion and violent resistance started to increase. In response to the resistance, the Buffalo soldiers were created. Among them were the 10th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas were created. The 10th Cavalry Regiment was well known for controlling the situation in the west and many of the soldiers were issued the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Kansas became a state in 1861 with the expansion of the Santa Fe Trail. Present day Kansas has thrived as one of the top wheat production states in the United States. Kansas is considered the Midway, of the U.S. because of its central geological location.
Kansas City, Kansas, is considered to Missourians as the "other city across the river". In a historical sense, it goes both ways with the ongoing history of the Kansas Jayhawkers and Missouri Bushwhackers. Kansas City, Kansas, has an abundant amount of restaurants, family activities, and festivals that go on throughout the year.
Before you start your trip, dining is always one of the first priorities. To start off your day in Kansas City, Kansas, stop at Tatsu's French Restaurant. This casual/elegant restaurant has been noted as one of the best restaurants in Kansas. Tatsu's offers a variety of French cuisines and a menu price of $30 and under.
If you're in the mood for some legendary barbecue, head to Famous Dave's. Famous Dave's has won multiple awards for best barbecue. For an adventure and fun for kids head to Elephant Bar Restaurant where everything is made from scratch and the environment is entertaining for all ages.
Attractions around the area consist of a variety of events for the family, couple, or just a day for yourself. The Kansas Speedway is a great family venue in which you can witness the thrill and excitement of the racing atmosphere. Another attraction for the kids is the Kids Museum where they will be able to learn and interact with knowledge. The Great Wolf Lodge is every kids dream. Besides the beautiful arrangement of the lodge, there is also a water park for kids to enjoy while parents can sit back and relax. While you're at the lodge you can take a trip around the area to Bass Pro. Shop, Dave and Busters and the Legends Movie Theatre. If you feel like spending more than a day, you can reserve a room and stay a night.
One for the couples is the Anthology of Argentine Mural which consists of a 220?. wall of the history of Argentine life. If you're more interested in seeing a race, head to the Woodlands for a Greyhound or horse race. One activity you would love to do by yourself is of course, shop. Shopping centers can be found all around the downtown area and a small trip to Olathe to the largest mall in Kansas.
No matter if it's a family vacation or just a day to yourself, taking a trip to Kansas City, Kansas, can be both exciting and relaxing.
